This political cartoon is on the issue of the Spanish American war. I know this because the cartoonist used symbolism and labeling. The tree symbolizes Spain and Uncle Sam represents America. The cartoonists message is that America is taking Spain's colonies. This is shown in the cartoon because Uncle Sam is chopping off flakes of the colonies. Another opinion on the topic might be that this issue is a good thing because all the smaller, weaker countries will be under the protection of America. The cartoonist used an analogy. They compared Uncle Sam chopping down a tree to the Spanish empire falling. The cartoonist also used symbolism. uncle Sam symbolizes America while the person on top of the tree represents Spain. this cartoon supports my position on imperialism because it shows that when one powerful nation falls another one gains from that.
